The Da Vinci Code

Goa bans The Da Vinci Code

PANAJI : Under pressure from Catholic organisations, citizens and sections of the ruling Congress, the Goa Cabinet on Monday decided to ban the controversial film The Da Vinci Code.
The Government had earlier said that it was up to the Centre to decide whether to ban the film.
Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane told presspersons that the decision was made taking into consideration the sentiments of the people and the action taken by some other States.
Goa had a substantial Catholic population whose feelings needed to be respected, he said.
A city multiplex, which had started screening the film on Friday, suspended the shows on Sunday after South Goa MP Churchill Alemao threatened to forcibly stop the screening.
