Fire Accident in my Home Town

Blaze starts around 3 a.m. in `B' block, reportedly due to short-circuit

A dweller of Vambay Colony in Vijayawada picks up the charred remains of her belongings after a massive fire reduced 44 huts in the area to ashes in the early hours of Monday.

Some 44 huts were reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out in Vambay Colony in Singhnagar in the early hours of Monday.

Though there was no loss of life, an old woman, sustained minor burns in her leg and her condition was stated to be safe. The victims could pick up nothing from their homes in the pitch darkness. Most of their belongings were reduced to cinders.

The fire was triggered around 3 a.m. in `B' block, reportedly due to short-circuit in a hut when there were gales. Two fire tenders, one each from the fire control room and Singhnagar fire station, reached the spot by 3.45 a.m. It took two hours for the fire extinguishers to douse the flames completely.

The fire occurred on the Radhanagar side of Vambay Colony, where nearly 140 families are living in huts raised in the sites temporarily allotted by the district administration. These families are expected to get permanent houses in the new Vambay Colony coming up at Rajarajeswaripet.

Officials said that the victims were given Rs. 1,500 cash and 20 kg of rice for each family. They were shifted to Jandhyala Dakshina Murthy School in Vambay Colony for shelter.

Not sure to how many people the help will go and pray that the help will go to the right persons and my dad is helping out there..trying collect some old clothes and rice to distrubute..Pray for us as we go in and for the guidance of the god..
